Sexually Transmitted Infections
STIs are frequently asymptomatic or overlapping; molecular testing enables accurate aetiological diagnosis and partner management.
Sexually transmitted infections caused by organisms such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Trichomonas vaginalis, Mycoplasma genitalium and Treponema pallidum frequently present with overlapping or minimal symptoms. Nucleic acid amplification tests are the most sensitive routine diagnostic approach for several of these pathogens; serology remains essential for syphilis and blood-borne virus screening.
